Abstract

Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) pharmacological tool to produce liver damage in rats. Silymarin (100 mg/kg) and extract of Butea monosperma (shown to be hepatoprotective substances) prevented the CCl4 induced toxicity. Hydroalcholic extract of the stem bark of Butea Monosperma was evaluated for its hepatoprotective. This in vitro efficacy was reinforced by a significant dose dependent hepatoprotection (at 100 mg/kg and 200mg/kg dose) by decreasing the activity of serum enzymes, bilirubin, and lipid peroxidation while it significantly increased the reduced Glutathione levels of tissue in a dose dependant manner. The Hepatoprotective activities of the extract are being comparable to standards Silymarin. The results obtained in the present study indicate that stem bark extract of Butea Monosperma is a potential source of natural hepatoprotective. The hepatoprotective property may be attributed to the antioxidant potential and the phytochemical constituents of the plant. The present study justifies the claim of the native practitioner that the decoction of the plant is useful in treating jaundice and find out the clinical efficacy of the Butea Monosperma.

Abstract

Burns are one of the most familiar and distressing forms of trauma which results from excess exposure to heat, caustic chemicals, solar, lumpectomy/mastectomy, or radiation. Burn wound development remains an amazing challenge for burn diagnosis and therapy. Patients with serious thermal injury require immediate specialized care in order to reduce morbidity and mortality. Significant thermal injuries induce a state of immunosuppression that predisposes burn patients to complications due to bacterial colonisation and invasive bacterial infection. The review sheds spotlight on the current outline of classifications of burn wound infections, immunological responses of burns, treatment strategies. Early excision of the eschar has substantially decreased the incidence of invasive burn wound infection and secondary sepsis, but most deaths in severely burn-injured patients are still due to burn wound sepsis or complications due to inhalation injury. Burn patients are also at risk for developing sepsis secondary to pneumonia, catheter-related infections, and suppurative thrombophlebitis. The introduction of silver-impregnated devices (e.g., central lines and Foley urinary catheters) may reduce the incidence of nosocomial infections due to prolonged placement of these devices. Moreover bioresources from plant and animal has served as an existing therapy in healing of wounds and in restoration of skin's integrity. Improved outcomes for severely burned patients have been accredited to medical advances in fluid resuscitation, nutritional support, pulmonary and burn wound care, and infection control parameters in the aid of such harrowing condition.

Abstract

The present study aimed at screening of antimicrobial activity against E. Coli and B. Subtilis of methanolic, chloroform, and aqueous extract of Ariel part of Andrographis paniculata. The three concentrations were prepared of each extracts 100 mg/ml, 200 mg /ml and 300mg/ml. For each bore 0.2 ml is added. The antimicrobial activity was carried out by Disc diffusion method with Benzyl peniciline as a standard. (100mg/kg). The study (antibacterial screening) showed that among all the extract the methanolic extract showed maximum zone of inhibition. The plant contains various active constituent such as Kalmeghin Andrographolide, which may be responsible for antimicrobial activity of the plant.

Abstract

This study throws a light on assessing the research impact of scholarly communication of pharmaceutical research in India. Measuring impact is important for promotion and tenure, determining research quality, visibility of institution and productivity of Indian authors and to assess potential for grant funding. Pharmaceutical science deals with the study of drugs which evolves the depth information of biological, chemical and medical science. The basic goal of the pharmaceutical science is to confirm the efficacy, safety and potency of drugs or medicine. In pharmaceutical research high investment is done to get high returns when a drug successfully introduced. A tremendous growth in pharmaceutical research is found in last two decade. India with 112,502 pharmaceutical research publications were indexed in Scopus holds 3^rd position among the global context.

Abstract

Nigella sativa belonging to family ranunculaceae. This plant is an extensively used as medicinal plant in India as well as all over the world. Nigella sativa (N. sativa) is well known plant of traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani. It is also known as nutmeg flower, black seed, black cumin, black caraway, fennel flower, roman coriander, and kalonji. Alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, glycosides, terpenoids and steroids are the important phyto constituents of N. sativa. The active constituents of N. sativa are thymohydroquinone, p-cymene, dithymoquinone, thymoquinone, carvacrol, sesquiterpene longifolene. N. sativa seed also contains pentacyclic triterpene, alpha-hederin, protein, carbohydrates, crude fibre, fat and saponin. N. sativa oil contains oleic acid, palmitic acid, linoleic acid. Aromatics contain α-thujene, thymol, α-pinene, thymoquinone, dihydrothymoquinone. N. sativa has been used as stimulant, emmenagogue, appetizer, pungent, anthelmintic, pungent, deodorant, carminative, purgative, expectorant, febrifuge, deodorant etc. N. sativa possess numerous pharmacological action such as antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, hepatoprotective, antioxidant, antiinflammatory, analgesic, immunomodulatory, antidiabetic, dyslipidemia, antiepileptic, gastroprotective, antioxytocic, anti-fertility, respiratory, dermatological, nephroprotective, antiviral, testicular-protective, antidepressant and anticonvulsant activity. So considering the medicinal value and its therapeutic potential this review article would spotlight on phytochemistry, chemical composition and pharmacological activity of N. sativa.

Abstract

Bacteria with increase antibiotics resistant caused serious health treat worldwide. Regular surveillance of resistance spectra and clonal relationship of infectious bacteria are important for appropriate use of antibiotics. In this study, we investigated the antibiotic resistant pattern and clonal relationship of Enterobacter spp isolated from different clinical samples of a tertiary care hospital of Odisha, India. The results of this study indicated the presence of multidrug resistant Enterobacter spp with multiple β-lactamases production. The phylogenetic tree showed three unique clusters of ERIC within the nineteen Enterobacter spp. isolates.
